Lately, I’ve been busy in the studio making basket after basket—getting ready for an upcoming class I’ll be teaching at Plain Jane’s & Co. in Leavenworth, KS.

These nested quilted baskets make the perfect classroom project because they’re quick, fun, and so satisfying to finish. And while I would love to have you join me in person, I also want everyone to have the chance to make them.

That’s why I’m offering the pattern free on my website, so you can create your own set right at home if you don't live in the Kansas City area.

If you’re looking for a project that is quick, practical, and absolutely gift-worthy… these nested quilted baskets might just become your new go-to.

They’re one of those rare projects that check all the boxes:

  • Fast to make

  • Beginner-friendly

  • Scrap-friendly (or perfect for your favorite prints)

  • And endlessly versatile

Even better? You can make an entire set in about three hours.

A Simple Supply List

You only need a handful of materials to create a complete nested set:

  • Two ½-yard cuts of fabric (or four fat quarters will work!)

  • 3/8 yard fabric for binding

  • 1 yard of double-sided fusible foam

  • A scrap of ribbon or a button for the finishing touch

That’s it. No complicated prep, no endless cutting—just an easy, satisfying sew.

Why Quilters Love This Project

These baskets are structured enough to hold their shape (thank you, fusible foam!) but still soft and charming with that quilted texture we all love.

And the nested design? It makes them feel like a complete, thoughtful set—whether you’re keeping them or gifting them.

So Many Ways to Use Them! Once you make your first set, you’ll start seeing possibilities everywhere:

In your home:

  • Bread basket for the table

  • Catch-all for sewing supplies

  • Pretty storage for a bathroom or guest room

As gifts:

  • Spa-themed gift basket (think lotions, bath bombs, cozy extras)

  • Teacher appreciation gift

  • Baby shower bundle filled with essentials

    Holiday or hostess gifts

They’re not just containers—they elevate whatever you put inside.

Perfect Timing: Spring Gifting Season

With Easter, Mother’s Day and the end of school right around the corner, these baskets are a beautiful handmade option that feels personal without requiring days of work.

Imagine:

  • A soft pastel basket filled with Easter treats

  • A floral set holding a thoughtful Mother’s Day gift

  • A cheerful spring print filled with self-care goodies

  • Colorful classroom inspired fabrics filled with all the little things that make a teacher's day a little brighter

It’s the kind of gift that feels both handmade and elevated.

A Great Confidence Builder

If you’re a confident beginner (or even just ready to stretch your skills a bit), this project is a fantastic way to:

  • Practice working with fusible foam

  • Improve your binding skills (the foam is easy to bind!)

  • Create something polished and professional-looking

And the best part? You’ll actually use what you make—or feel proud gifting it.
