Introducing Twilight: A Geometric Quilt Pattern Three Years in the Making

Have you ever seen a quilt and thought, "That is absolutely stunning — but it’s too complicated for me to make"?

If so, I have a feeling you're going to love my newest pattern, Twilight.

Twilight is a geometric quilt featuring secondary designs and lots of stars. It's a quilt that will make you take a second look. The kind you will lean in to look at more closely. The kind that gets called "stunning," "beautiful," "gorgeous," and my personal favorite, “a pleasure to make."

And here's the best part: despite its show-stopping, intricate look, Twilight is built from just two blocks. Blocks that are made of basic quilt blocks you already know and love. The same tried-and-true units you've sewn a hundred times before. Half-square triangles, triangle in a square, and snowballed corners.  Simple shapes that come together in a way that looks complicated. And you can make it from yardage, or for a more scrappy look, you can use Fat Eighths.

A story behind the pattern

I designed Twilight a few years ago, and it was set to launch in 2023. But weeks before the release date, my husband's health took a turn. He was admitted to hospice, and everything came to a stop.

I postponed the pattern, thinking I'd be back to it in weeks or maybe a few months.

After his death, I found myself mentally and physically exhausted. My creativity, which had always been such a steady part of my life, vanished completely. I had nothing left to give.

My sweet pattern testers didn't push me. They didn't ask when the pattern would be ready. They simply waited, patiently and kindly, while I figured out my next steps.

It took me time to realize what I needed most was to give myself the grace of time. I had to give myself permission to rest my body and mind, for as long as it took. There was no timeline for healing.

Now, three years later, I am happy to say that my creativity has returned. I am happily making again. And when I reached out to my wonderful pattern testers to share that I was finally ready to release Twilight, they jumped right back onboard with full hearts and open arms.  They are indeed a wonderful group of quilters that I have come to appreciate for more than their quilting skills.
